Free music ish… DJ Zimmie & Risk One made a mixtape. I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but knowing how both these dudes are it's probably amazing (and heavy on the electro club, hip hop, party bangers). They'll be at the Crown Room on Saturday (along with a few other special guests) holding down Portland's crazy monthly party Massive! http://www.mediafire.com/?dfuwzzr2zni

Awesome Ish… Oh yeah, it's Massive this Saturday night at the Crown Room! If you've never been prepare yourself for a night of craziness. Luckily the usnaps photo booth will be set up so you can have something to help you re-piece the night the next day. FREE entry before 10pm by saying ‘LifeisaParty' at the door!

Things to look for this weekend… Burlesque shows, vaudeville shows, $2 whiskey, $1 beer, fashion shows, pole dancing competitions, break dancing competitions, date auctions, cassette tape shows, movie fests, tons of parties, press on a Portland band in VICE magazine and one big Chowder fest!

Life is a party, everyone is just waiting to be invited.
See you all out and about! Leigh Feldman

Tonight: Rudeboy Riot @ Jolly Roger | Members of March Fourth, Uprite Dub, Chronicle

Posted by Dylan Trosper

I won't blame it on our notoriously chronic smoke, but Portland's reggae scene has been bubbling. A perennial stop for touring acts, there always seems to be a festival or four once the sun comes out, and local heads have been flowing vibrations at venues like the Mt. Tabor (which sports a semi-weekly show, featuring the legendary Mr. Pato Banton next month). But it's not all jah and irie in the scene, and too many reggae shows in town seem to be imbued with a spirit I can only describe as "Eugene-y," stressing the line between "natty" and "hippie."

Rudeboy Riot aims to douse some fire on those bobos, with a first show at the Jolly Roger this Thursday. The Warsaw Poland Bros. will be hosting the spot, featuring Portland stalwarts Chronicle and the March Fourth Marching Band, and the return of local legends Uprite Dub Orchestra.

Any one of these bands can put on a serious show, all of them with at least Read the rest of this entry »

Video: Portland Trail Blazers Forward Jeff Pendergraph's Sweet Ride

Jeff Pendergraph's Nissan GT-R
February 24, 2010
Video by drivingsports

Jeff Pendergraph has a pretty nice car and as he says in the video, it is not very common. So, if you see a black Nissan GT-R rolling around Portland, that is probably him…

JP comes in right at the 4 minute mark in the video & I'm assuming the shop he goes to customize his ride is in the Portland area. Anyone recognize it/know the shop?

Have an iPhone? From Driving Sports TV (drivingsports.com): “Watch the full 10-minute uncut Pendergraph interview on the Driving Sports iPhone App, available in the Apple iTunes App Store”

On the Twitter? So is JP – @TheRealJP31

The M4K 'Stache Bash is Portland's best – and only – mustache beauty pageant and fundraiser. Since January, the brave and hairy Mustaches for Kids Growers have been cultivating sweet 'staches to benefit DonorsChoose.org, a national non profit organization that lets donors hand-pick projects to fund at underserved public schools right here in Oregon. Tonight, the Growers will be put through a test of mind, body, and mustache before an independent panel of judges names one lucky contestant as Portland's Sweetest 'Stache.

Doors at 8pm, pageant at 9pm. $5 donation day of show.

Just Another Music Monday: Leviticus Appleton

Posted by Mike Harper

With sing-song storytelling between bars of young sung blues, Leviticus Appleton plays the songs of quirky Stumptown youth with the heart of a traveling kid and the stories of a wizened poet. Mid-song banter at his live show will endear you and inspire double takes just the same, but leave you waiting for each next song. His latest release, Desert Lynx, whimsically dances out soft tunes with dissonant accents of eerie accordion and ghostlike humming harmonies, reminiscent of Nor-cal rooted “freak folk“, but most definitely sounds the bell of Keep Portland Weird.
