Toaster Productions and Rockstar Energy Drink are proud to unveil Brutal Beauty, Tales of the Rose City Rollers, an embedded look at the 2009 Rose City Rollers season. The epic documentary puts special focus on the women who make up the Rose City Rollers and the effort and sacrifice that go into this increasingly popular sport. "The goal of Brutal Beauty was to examine the culture and sensation that roller derby has become in Portland and to attempt to discover what is at the core of this movement," said Chip Mabry, Producer/Director of the film.

The film covers the regular season of Portland derby and then follows the Wheels of Justice (RCRʼs All-Star travel team) cross-country as they attempt to qualify for the WFTDA (Womenʼs Flat Track Derby Association) National Championships in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The crew was allowed unlimited access to the Rose City Rollers during practice, bouts, on the road and in their lives away from derby over the course of the year.

The documentary showcases a wide array of local production and musical talent including editor Ben Meador and original music by John Askew and Boy Meets Drum Machine. The goal of the production was to create Brutal Beauty one hundred percent within the local
creative scene.
