Party favors & special appearance by Snow Girl!

New Years is a holiday that you own to yourself. In old Russia they say that the special way – and the circle of friends – you spend your New Years night with will continue for the rest on the year.

Let's welcome the year 2010 as a year of balance: Balance between crazy and cozy, stylish and outrageous, cold and hot, beer and vodka…but always happy with caviar and champagne and good music.  The countdown at 12, party favors and a sea of champagne and caviar, will add a little touch of luxury, but don't you fear – all within the balance of your pocket!

MC Clown Dingo and his assistant Olive will make laugh and possibly cry, but just to keep you in a healthy balance. Snow Girl makes a game for you to find your perfect balance in the new 2010. So bring your Read the rest of this entry »

Tonight is the official opening of Peacock Lane's Christmas lights. There was a car-free night last night, but it was not rainstorm free unfortunately. We might not have been so happy with Snowpocalypse last year, but it was rather nice for pictures like this.

The photo above is from a couple weeks back for the North Portland Anticon. The official Santacon is this Saturday. It is downtown, but meeting times and places are hidden until Saturday and even then, they of course are going to try and fool people.

This is what was sent to us:

  • Santacon is Dec 19, and NOT at Skidmore
[[[ not public ]]] meeting point will be at the new park by Fox Tower 10. The one they tore down a building to make. People who go to Skidmore will be abandoned and dodged most of the day.
  • Santacon may release the route map
[[[ not public ]]] If they do, they will also release at least five versions of a fake map
  • The @santaconpdx twitter account is legit. They plan to screw with people up to the event, but don't plan to screw with people during the event. So subscribe to it for real-time Santa movements.

Tonight: This Is Not A Date — Starring Nathaniel Boggess | Someday Lounge

Nathaniel Boggess at Backfence

Posted by Sasha Burchuck

Seven years ago, after he had just arrived here from West Virginia, I remember I used to see this guy Nathaniel Boggess (also known as "Westy") around town, driving his 1970s midnight blue Lincoln Continental from dance party to dance party. He would step out of the car in his three-piece suit looking like Tom Wolfe and yell "WOOH!" He sure did cut the image of being a real southern rock gentleman, with his drawl and the vest and the necktie and the car. All of these charming attributes, along with his quick wit and self-effacing sense of humor, made him one of the Portland scene's most eligible bachelors — but along with all of the female attention that he's been known to attract, there have been plenty of romantic misunderstandings, some of them glorious, some of them downright weird.

Boggess will bring his dating memoirs to life this Sunday at Someday lounge. When I asked him what inspired him to turn some of his more awkward and embarrassing moments in to a one-man show, he told me, "Mostly the ridiculous nature of most of these situations. I feel like they are stories that are odd enough that people will laugh, but common enough that they will also easily relate to them. Hopefully everyone will laugh and enjoy themselves and ultimately have fun at my expense."

See Nathaniel Boggess perform "This Is Not A Date" on Sunday, December 13th, at Someday Lounge — 125 NW Fifth Ave. Tickets $8/$10 at the door.
