Review: Biglittlethings @ Image Theater + Win Tickets | Runs Through January 3

By Tiffany Garner

Take a Kid or Take Some Acid

Imago theatre never fails to impress. Creativity and imagination just pour out of that brick building.  The moment this play started I was entranced and giggling like I was just another 4 year old in the theatre. There were giant bunnies on the stage! The gasp from the kids was adorable. In fact listening to their reactions was half the fun and I don't even like kids. They were so fascinated and excited by everything that I became just as enthralled.

The costumes were fantastically creative, of course. There were frogs, fireflies and hippos (a big hit with the kids) and crazy acrobats jumping into their costumes.  The technical staff is to be applauded for their amazing work; they must have a blast coming up with this stuff. The lighting effects were a huge part of this performance, especially the underwater black light scenes. The crazy glowing fish caused a great stir with the kids and made me wonder why I hadn't scheduled to see the play on a Friday night rather than a Sunday afternoon.

The whole thing basically felt like I was watching a live episode of The Muppets, one of those trippy early episodes that is. It was super fun the entire time. If you don't have a kid and can't find one to borrow make sure to go with someone that can cut loose and laugh out loud. This play really brings out the kid in you so let loose, gasp and giggle, oooh and ahhh…it feels great.

Tonight: Axe-Wielding Pyscho Santa @ Hollywood Theater | Grindhouse

Tonight is Grindhouse Festival's annual screening of “Silent Night, Deadly Night” and unlike last year, there is no snowpocalypse to mess things up.

From Grindhouse:

This Tuesday at 7:45 at the Hollywood Theatre, The Grindhouse Film Festival presents Portland's greatest cinematic holiday tradition: the annual screening of SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT.  A 35mm print of the 1984 Christmas classic, plus, audience favorite horror trailers before the movie.

SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT (1984) Since his parents were killed by a man in a Santa suit, a child grows up with a hatred of Santa Claus.  Now, as a young man, he is forced by his boss at a toy store to dress up as jolly Saint Nick, and is finally pushed over the edge.

On Christmas Eve, he becomes an axe-wielding psycho Santa, out to punish all who are naughty.  Classic scenes include the sledding beheading, the toy store montage, the bloody box knife as a little girl's Christmas present, and crazy Grandpa terrifying little Billy with his tales of a rampaging killer Santa Claus.

NYE 2010 Bubbly Bash at Eastburn: Free Champagne | New Years Portland

Not much info on this Portland New Years party other than info on this flyer. I was at East Burn on Halloween and it was packed with partiers. I'm sure New Years will be the same–especially with the free bubbly. :)

Check out our growing list of Portland New Years parties, events & info here.

By Christmas day, we should have a complete list of New Years parties. If you know of one that we should add, email us.

Climber – I Don't Exist (High Quality)

Music video for the song “I Don't Exist” for the band Climber.
Written, Directed, Filmed and Edited by Trip Ross

Climber was one the top local bands in Portland before disappearing a year or so ago. Here are some not great pics I took the last time I saw them at Doug Fir. I have not heard them before, but it was a good show and I stayed the full set (rare for me). I definitely suggest checking this group out.

From Press Release:

“If you peruse the telephone poles of the city, you've likely run across the iconic image that Climber has chosen for their band: the stark indicator of an escalator, under which they put the band's Read the rest of this entry »
