Places To Watch The Rose Bowl in Portland & Online | Oregon Ducks vs Ohio State

(Related: 50+ Portland Weekend Events, Parties & Free Tickets | December 31-January 3)

The Oregon Ducks haven't been to the Rose Bowl in 15 years, so this a pretty big deal. They won't let Blount talk to the press, but if he could, I'm sure this is what he'd say:

I knocked that fool out and we're going to knock out Ohio State too.

The game starts at 2PM Pacific/5PM Eastern (which is absurdly early for New Years hangovers). So where should you watch this game in Portland?

Pipeline SE Pick: Tanker Bar, 4825 SE Hawthorne

If you are in the Barmuda Triangle, there really isn't a better place to watch the game than Tanker. They have great taps, several nice televisions giving a view pretty much everywhere in the bar. They open at noon and will have breakfast until 4 and happy hour until 8PM. Read the rest of this entry »

New Years @ Roseland With Murder City Devils & Jello Biafra

New Year's Eve Party!
Roseland Theater
Portland, Oregon
9:00pm, 21+
Buy Tickets here

A preacher's mouth and a rock ‘n' roll heart — sometimes that's all it takes to make you move. The Murder City Devils never fail to stir these emotions in their audience; for the fans that need to feel it again, and for the fans that never have, the Devils are celebrating New Year's Eve in Portland  to deliver their powerful brand of sonic assault.

What makes the Devils rise above is that they understand rock ‘n' roll is about much more than a simple formula — it's a lifestyle you naturally know or don't. The music, the lyrics, the look, and the vibe all have to be in sync. You either have it or you don't, and the Devils have a combination so few other bands in the genre possess — a gripping sound, a distinct message, a touch of the mysterious, and the know-how to give the fans exactly what they want.

WEINLAND, The New Year's Super Group & The Dimes @ Mission Theater + Lots of Guests

The addition of the “New Year's Super Group”  could make this one of the most interesting Portland NYE events this year.

Related: Portland New Years Parties, Events, Information and Pictures

From Facebook info:

WEINLAND
and The New Year's Super Group (see below)
with The Dimes

This is the New Years Eve Party for people who want to dance, grind, and rock all in one place. The show for people with a rock n' roll sensibility and the deep and impulsive need to dance on the biggest party night of the year.

The Dimes open with their high energy folk-pop tunes at 9pm. Can the over 400 people who lined up for their recent CD release party be wrong?!

WEINLAND lays aside the ballads and unleashes the beast at 10pm. Okay, we may play a ballad in the middle.. just so you know its us.. but in general we're coming to this with the energy that ended many of our recent tour shows with full blown sing alongs and stage rushing dancer kids.

Then, to close the show…

The New Year's Super Group:
Playing fast paced pump your fist and dance songs that span the last four decades of rock and pop.

We've been taking requests and have many, sure to get you moving, super hits in the bag! The early leaks: Eye of The Tiger by Survivor, Don't Stop Me Now by Queen, and Pump it Up by Elvis Costello. Soon to be announced.. the pop contingent.. do I smell MJ? JT? dare I mention Phil Collins??

We've got guests galore digging through their favorite jams and signing up to sing and play. The early committers:

Adam Selzer (Norfolk and Western, M. Ward)
Cory Gray (Car Crash Lander)
Chris Robley (The Fear of Heights, The Sort Ofs)
Tahoe Jackson (The one and only)
Brian Perez (Musee Mechanique, Baby Ketten)
The Members of Flauta (an honest to goodness Flute Ensemble)
and many more to be announced… super secret goodness!

Horns! Strings! Flutes! everything you need to rock the party!

Complete with dancing girls shaking it in unison and holding down the sultry backups.. this is not a show to miss.

Oh, and we have Original Members of Parliament Funkadelic.

Parliament Funkadelic: Where do you begin when describing the members of the bands that have backed George Clinton? The Crown Room is beyond excited to have Original Members of Parliament Funkadelic playing the final Massive of 2009. Members of Original P have also played with Cameo, The Supremes, The Temptations Review, The Platters, The Flamingos, Kool & the Gang, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes and Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell. Platinum Pied Pipers
Platinum Pied Pipers, of Detroit/Brooklyn, are masterminds at making seamless, genre-bending, edgy and danceable tunes. Straddling the lines of funk, soul, techno, hip-hop, and doo-wop oldies, Platinum Pied Pipers are making quite a name for themselves on the tour circuit. This New Year's Eve show will be their first spent in Portland and if this town's music scene is known for anything, it's an appreciation for musicians pulling from all corners of the musical landscape to make something…worthwhile.
