This Saturday- Junk to Funk Recycled Fashion Show Contest

Junk to Funk is definitely one of the larger shows this weekend and with this economy, I'm making all my clothes out junk. Also, isn't it good to see that Mayor Adams is fully back on the part scene after having to keep a low profile earlier this year. Is there a city with a mayor at more parties and events than this guy? I think not.

From Press Release:

Junk to Funk Recycled Fashion Show Contest
“Trashion Edutainment for the Masses”
November 14th, 2009 at the Crystal Ballroom

Portland's favorite trashion show continues!  November 14th will mark the fourth annual Junk to Funk Recycled Fashion Show Contest, once again hosted by Mayor Sam Adams, joined by The Mercury's Fashion Editor Marjorie Skinner.  The show will feature 25 pieces of newly constructed wearable art and couture fashion creatively transformed from "trash".  After selling out of the Wonder Ballroom in 2008, we are excited to announce that this year's Junk to Funk Recycled Fashion Show Contest will be held on November 14th at the Crystal Ballroom and for the first time will be an all ages event.

Contestants will compete for prizes up to $500 and will be judged by panel of local note worthies rightfully dubbed the "Junk Jury" comprised of local designer Adam Arnold and representatives from Scrap, The Regional Arts and Culture Council, Portland Fashion Week and the Oregon Association of Recyclers.  Winners will be determined based on the percent of recycled material used, design innovation, out of the box use of materials, quality of craftsmanship and wow factor in presentation.

Additionally the event will feature a premier performance by Portland's junk orchestra "Junkquestra", a "Green Carpet" interviews with Sustainable Today Television, craft vendors selling their recycled accessories, a DIY junk accessory table provided by SCRAP and as always, audience junky costumes are encouraged!

Doors will open at 7:00, show starts at 8:00; attendees are encouraged to come early to enjoy additional activities.  Tickets are available through the Crystal Ballroom, Scrap (general admission only) and all Ticket Master locations and are $17 for advance purchase, $20 at the door, or $40 for VIP preferred seating (preferred seating 21 and older only).
