Voicebox Karaoke One-Year Anniversary Celebration + Free Saké | November 11

From our partners @ Voicebox Karaoke

voicebox karaokeSince Voicebox Karaoke Lounge opened its doors one year ago, the Portland karaoke scene has never been the same. In just one year, more than 5,000 Portlanders have rocked out in our private karaoke suites. They've sipped more than 5,000 glasses of specialty saké and belted over 85,000 songs — always among friends and without interruption. Portland discovered that karoake is coolest when the mic is in YOU`R hands, when YOU are the KJ, and when the only audience is your BEST friends.

We at Voicebox have discovered that Portland can sing all night, and the song sung most is "Don't Stop Believin.'" To thank Portland for believin', Voicebox is celebrating our Journey with month of special events:

Wednesday, November 11, Grand Anniversary Party.

21 and over. Free admission.

Come and sing on us! Open door party all night long, with free saké tasting guided by reknowned saké sommelier Marcus Pakiser. This historic night will feature the Voicebox Recording Booth. Step in front of our cameras and become the star of your own karaoke music video. Your fame (or shame) will be posted on Youtube. Enjoy the debut of Spanish and Korean song catalogues, as well as hundreds of new additions to our English catalogue.

Learn why Voicebox is Portland's leader in saké infustion and sip on a new list of house-crafted saké cocktails. A night like this happens just once a year…

Tu Fawning @ The Woods & Holocene | November 10 & 11

Posted by Sahsa Burchuk

Tu Fawning at PDX Pop Now, circa 2008
From PolyVinyl Record Co. (Profile and audio for Tu Fawning)

Its been almost two years since the last time that I saw Tu Fawning perform, and I have to admit that the epPIcmemory is faint and faded, like a daguerreotype in a museum collection. But somehow remembering them in the silvery light of faded-photo nostalgia seems apropos of how they are: ethereal and impossible to pin down.

Each song has a life and instrumentation of it's own: Corrina Repp will go from playing the drums and singing to playing the guitar while Joe Haege is across the stage “playing the piano like his life depends on it,” as someone once said. What I do remember is that I was moved by their live show, as I am now, by their recordings: in every song there is the creation of another avant garde universe, something that is achieved through the synthesis of ad hoc orchestral arrangements, artistic sincerity, and high fidelity soundscaping.

Tu Fawning will perform live at The Woods with Loch Lommond on November 10 and at Holocene on November 11.
