FILMUSIK @ Hollywood Theater: Gamera vs. Guiron | Nov 4, 6, 11 & 13

Trailer – Filmusik: Gamera vs. Guiron

Posted by Dan Wheeler

The real kaiju otaku know that Godzilla is for pansies and poseurs, if you're looking for true hardcore street cred in the world of giant rubber movie monsters it's Gamera or it's nothing. Gamera is a giant prehistoric turtle that breathes fire and flies by spinning in a circle while firing powerful jets of flame out the arm and leg holes of his shell. (Yes, I know: AWESOME!) In this film he's pitted against Guiron a monster shaped like a giant bowie knife that can launch shuriken out it's nostrils. If you're thinking “Ho-Hum, I've seen cheesy monster movies before”, be assured: this is no ordinary movie screening. Oh, Heavens no! Gamera vs. Guiron will get the full FILMUSIK treatment.

FILMUSIK combines classic genre films with live performances of music, voice and sound design. So that means as the movie's playing you have live actors voicing all the parts in the movie (yes, even the monsters!), foley artists providing all the sounds effects and a chamber orchestra performing a soundtrack composed especially for the event. You cannot find a more unique cinema experience than this.

Since last year they've covered a lot of ground from Read the rest of this entry »
