Wed 10/28- JWail vs aNDu, The Great Mundane-Join us for an evening merging the machinery of the digital age with the touch of humanity. In past tours, J Wail has shared jams with members of String Cheese Incident, Ween, Perpetual Groove, The Brazilian Girls and many more. The Great Mundane (PDX via Chicago) brings his sparkling jazz-crunk to the lounge with the help of live drummer Ian O'Brian. $7.
Thu 10/29- Marco Benevento Trio- Marco Benevento (The Duo, GRAB w/ Trey Anastsio and Mike Gordon) is one of the most forward thinking (and ridiculously talented) keyboardists in the country. Melding indie rock, electronica, jazz and straight funk his recent recordings are some of the most critically acclaimed albums of the last several years. For tonight's show he will be playing an acoustic upright piano (though much of the time he will filter it through a series of effects) and will be joined by Andrew Barr (The Slip) and Reed Mathis (Tea Leaf Green, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey). This will be a jaw dropper. $15.

BURMA VJ—REPORTING FROM A CLOSED COUNTRY
Great Britain/Denmark 2008
Director: Anders Østergaard
In 2007, after decades of self-imposed silence, Burma became headline news across the globe when peaceful Buddhist monks led a massive rebellion. More than 100,000 people took to the streets protesting a cruel dictatorship that has held the country hostage for more than 40 years. Foreign news crews were banned, the internet was shut down, and Burma was closed to the outside world. So how did we witness these events? Enter the Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB), aka the Burma VJs. Compiled from the shaky handheld footage of the DVB, Østergaard's film pulls us into the heat of the moment as the VJs themselves become the target of the Burmese government. (85 min.) Post-film panel discussion hosted by Project Maje and the Burma Action Committee.
