Review: Teeth of the Sons @ Waterbrook Studio

Posted by Miss Lorraine

teeth-card-frontFirst off, bring your Google map directions with you. Waterbrook Studio is in a hard to find nook of North Portland but it turned out to be an interesting venue for a play. The building is a large warehouse by the train tracks and the performance space is a small room that holds probably 30 people. It felt  intimate and personal in the studio, more like I was walking into someone's living room rather than a theater.

The Re-Theatre Instrument's production of Teeth of the Sons by Joseph Sousa is a serious play about religion and family. To be honest I was actually dreading it a little bit, I'm more of a comedy or musical type of gal and my mom is an Episcopal Priest so I am familiar with the whole religion/family thing. But I have to admit I enjoyed it.

Joseph Sousa (Jacob) and Will Allen (Sam) play brothers who were once tight buddies but have since grown apart and become two wildly different people. Sam still likes to party but Jacob has become deeply involved in his Jewish religion. They haven't seen each other in quite a while and Jacob is pretty sore that he's been the one in charge of taking care of their grandmother while Sam has been off living the life of a drunken gentile. Fothing Interviews | Tamara Carroll

Posted by Meagan Kate
n168394906880_7643Earlier this year, we told you all about Fall of the House; an improvised stage sitcom about a group of twenty-somethings living here in Portland. The series, having just concluded their fifth season, consistently gets rave reviews and continues to impress audiences with its original writing, quick witted actors and obvious Portland connections. The young theater company that writes and produces Fall of the House is Action/Adventure Theatre and they have a new project which we at PDX Pipeline are thrilled to be a part of. They call it: Fothing.

It is a fully scripted web series surrounding the  lives of the Fall of the House writers. Each Thursday, a new episode of Fothing will be available on the show's website and each Tuesday, a new interview with cast members, writers and creators will be available right here on Pipeline.

Thursday, the series premiere of Fothing will be available at www.fothingtv.com. It's plot is described as the following:

When the one member financially backing the project has her trust fund fall through, they all find themselves with a whole lot of attention and no way to produce their epic next season. As the company members war over whether or not to accept a proposed corporate sponsorship each member takes a wildly different approach to raising funds, from printing merchandise in a Palestinian sweatshop to botched attempts at selling drugs, all amidst a battle with their rival theater company.

This week, I met with the delightful Tamara Carroll, one of the original Fall of the House creators and Directors who is now experiencing life as an actress … playing herself.
