From the hell they came… 30 years ago in a small town in New Jersey called Lodi. It was there, at the dawn of the punk movement in April 1977, that the Misfits were born. Taking for their name the title of Marilyn Monroe's final movie, they set out to make an impression. They wound up making history and creating a legacy which has withstood the test of time. Today, boasting a massive catalog of music old and new, a new lineup and an influence felt around the world, the Misfits are generating more interest than ever before.
Thirty years on, the Misfits have endured hardcore's heyday as punk rock's monster squad, a band whose cult following — a pseudo-secret coven known as the Fiend Club — inspired them to continue to write, record and tour. These "Fiends" (as their fans are known), which are still multiplying globally, go back now several generations and also includes many artists. In fact, bands across the spectrum of rock have offered their tribute by covering the band's material, including Guns ‘n Roses, with the classic Misfits song “Attitude;” My Chemical Romance who revisited the classic "Astro Zombies" for the soundtrack to "Tony Hawk's American Wasteland" video game; Hatebreed with their namesake song "Hate Breeders" on their upcoming Fall 2008 release "For The Lions" and Metallica who covered no less than three Misfits songs on their double CD set “Garage Days Revisited,” while hailing the band as a key influence on their music. A tribute album entitled VIOLENT WORLD featured the likes of Prong, NOFX and Sick of It All.

Back in ’98, just days after we’d arrived in Portland, a beautiful orange Paisley suitcase was stolen from the back seat of our car. Inside the irreplaceable suitcase? More irreplaceables – a neon pink vinyl raincoat, sex toys, weird little cat drawings, mail art, and… A MISFITS T-SHIRT. Thin, white shirt with the Evilive cover reproduced in black, red, and green. I’m almost positive it was a bootleg item – Glenn probably would’ve popped me in the face over it. I still miss it. I like to think that winning tickets to their show at Berbati’s would seal up a weird Portland-karma loop.
…
Good thing I still have a Samhain shirt with the arms torn off to wear to the show!

I would so love to win these tickets, and here’s why. My ex turned me onto them, and we just broke up so I’d love to rub it in his face that I get to go. Ha! Really, I’d love to go because it would mean a lot to me – even though the asshole is gone, my love for the Misfits remains and just gets stronger and stronger. I think of myself as a bigger fiend than him now!

I’d love some tickets.
The Misfits Walk Among Us was the first punk album I ever owned and remains a classic. I was too young to see them in their first go-round; when I did see them on their reunion tour in 2000(?) it was more of a spectacle and less of a revelation. I wonder who Jerry Only has with him this time around?

I met a girl at work in 1998. I mentioned I was going to Misfits show and she begged to go with me. Alas, she had to work that night, so I went with another friend/coworker, who was perhaps the Misfit’s biggest fan. Sadly, a few years later he passed away. Oh, and I married the girl who had to work that evening. We did not name either of our kids Glenn, nor Danzig. Does that disqualify us?

Ah, crap. It’s probably too late to win these but I grew up in Lodi, NJ the birthplace of the Misfits!!!

There are 52 ways to see the Misfits.
One and two are the same, but PDX Pipeline is most swell.

So last week I took a 20 hour Greyhound ride down to Santa Cruz, bought Static Age for my turntable at Streetlight Records down there. When I got home I was puking sick, but I still listened to that record for hours and rocked out between cookie-tossing. I think that warrants a pair of free tickets, but hey- what the fuck do i know?

My good friend Sam has worn the same misfits shirt every day I’ve seen him for the past seven years. He’s currently doing lame tech-support in Tigard, as he has for years, and hating it. I would bring him to this show. He needs it.
