Wordstock starts tomorrow with a kickoff concert and party at the Bagdad. Tickets are only $5, but you can win some here on Pipeline. wordstock portland 2009The fifth annual Wordstock Book Fair is Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 10 – 11 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Ore.  The event attracts 170+ first-time authors, National Book Award Winners and bestsellers.  With book sales, author readings and panels, as well as a children's stage featuring authors, music and celebrity storytellers, the event is worth the $5 admission.

Fitting for a city with a national "foodie" reputation is this year's special focus on food writing (culinate.com), with cookbook authors and bloggers discussing writing, publishing and, of course, eating. More than a dozen writers will also discuss the memoir craft and another dozen will share their experience in the popular publishing genre of young adult fiction.

Portland Fashion Week 2009 | October 7-11

Portland Fashion Week ImageThis week, some of the world's most brilliant and talented designers will be visiting Portland to unveil their Spring/Summer 2010 collections and celebrate the idea that it is, in fact, easy (and fashionable) being green.

Now in its 6th year, Portland Fashion Week has gained global recognition as “THE fashion week for independent and sustainable designers” – not only because Portland is the ideal setting for any flavor of sustainable event, but because it promotes sustainable design in all aspects of the event. The production team has pulled out all the stops to make the week as sustainable as possible, featuring:

- eco-friendly styling products
- eco-friendly “swag bags”
- all printing on recycled paper
- organic food and refreshments served in biodegradable corn cups
- sustainable furniture and carpeting
- a venue built to LEED Gold certification standards
