I have praised The Liberators here before. They have given tickets away to our readers. They are incredibly sexy.  This weekend, however, The Liberators are going to rock your faces off.

Not only will you laugh with the hilarious Nicholas Kessler (Icarus, Live Wire!, The Second City, Improv Olympic), Shelley McLendon (Eastland Academy , Mortified, Live Wire!, ComedySportz Portland), John Breen (Wendy and Lucy, Upright Citizens Brigade NYC, The Auteur, Hoskins  and Breen) and Tony Marcellino (The Auteur, ComedySportz Portland, Your Other Left, Skin & Bones), but you'll meet some extra special guests reading their middle school diaries, poems, and/or songs. Yes, that's right — starting the show off will be a bite-sized Mortified show just for you!

The theme? Rock and Roll Fantasies. The Mortified performers, The Liberators — all bringing you the hot rock-related action.

Win Tickets: I can feel your excitement! So this is where we tell you that The Liberators are giving two sets of tickets away to our readers! Please comment below and let us know why you want to see The Liberators (please be sure you can attend), and you will be contacted Saturday afternoon if you have won.

Don't win? Relax! Tickets to the show are cheap and the laughs are abundant. Make sure to check out The Liberators website for information about their improv classes (for all levels!) – which are incredible!

Back Fence PDX | September 23rd @ Mission Theater

(Pipeline is giving away three sets of tickets to this event. Details at the bottom of this post.)

Posted by Meagan Kate

BackFenceTemplate.inddAfter a summer hiatus and a new event, Back Fence PDX is coming back in traditional form this Wednesday night. With the theme “Temporary Insanity”, Back Fence PDX is bringing us seven new story-tellers,free  treats from St. Cupcake and the ever-present Back Fence buttons!

For over a  year, the ladies of Back Fence PDX have put Portlanders (and a few special guests) on stage to tell true,  non-memorized stories that even their closest friends may be surprised to hear.

The Mission Theater serves as the perfect backdrop for the event, with an intimate feel and enough liquid courage to make anyone ready to expose their most awkward of moments.

Back Fence would like to offer three Pipeline readers a pair of tickets. The first three readers to write the name of a song with the words “Insane” or “Insanity” in the title will win two tickets to Wednesday night's event.

WHAT: Back Fence PDX: Temporary Insanity

WHERE: The Mission Theater

WHEN: Wednesday, September 23rd

HOW MUCH?:  $10 online, and $12 at the door of The Mission.

Tonight @ Someday Lounge: Pacific Pride & Padraic Finbar Hagerty-Hammond

Posted by Stacy Day

The much ado Musicfest NW is wrapping up with one final stage tonight. But that doesn't leave you with only one option for music. Someday Lounge opens it's doors for music Pacific Pride, Portlandworthy of your attention: Pacific Pride and Padraic Finbar Hagerty-Hammond (yes, that is his name, yes it is).

I'm no music critic; shying away from generic labels, obscure music references and comparisons. But do yourself a favor: Give a listen. Make your own decision. Yes, there are a few influences that come to my mind. Maybe we can compare notes at the bar tonight over a beer afforded by the bargain ticket price of $5. You can thank the bands later.

Night at the Museum – Portland Style | September 19

Posted by Sherri Montgomery

Join the Portland Art Museum and artists artist Harrell Fletcher and Jen Delos Reyes from Portland State University's Art and Social Practice Program, for a evening of participatory art at Shine A Light: A Night at the Museum.

The projects created for Shine a Light are intended to blur the boundaries between art and life and creating space for everyday moments to become a part of the Museum itself. Performances during the evening include musical acts, presenting the life of a boy in a painting, and a chance to view favorite selections from one of the museum's longtime curatorial volunteers. Each project seeks to provide new ways for people to experience the museum's collection.

In the Museum's sculpture courtyard there will be performances by local bands. Check out a printmaking demonstration at a mobile print factory. Inside the Museum there are games, more musicians, a project focused on saving endangered languages, and surprise video installations from the Northwest Film Center.

You can also sample art-inspired beers brewed by local breweries: Laurelwood, Old Lompoc, and Lucky Lab. Each of these breweries selected a work of art from the collection and used it as inspiration for a new beer to be unveiled at Shine a Light.

Advance tickets are available for purchase online (with $1 processing fee) or at the Museum.
When:  Saturday, September 19, 6PM-12AM
Where: Portland Art Museum,
Admission: Adults $12, Students/Seniors $9, Kids under 17 and Members are free

Alberta Arts Street Fair This Saturday | September 19

Posted by Nathalie Weinstein

Enjoy the waning days of summer at the Alberta Street Festival

binks / alberta street fair portlandOn Alberta Street, it's not completely unlikely to see a man on a skateboard hula-hooping while being pulled by a dog (seriously, I saw him the other night when I was walking home). So although there is little information out there about what to expect from this year's Alberta Street Fair, it's safe to say it won't be your average experience.

Beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday morning and ending at 6 p.m., the fair will turn Alberta street into one, big party from 11th to 30th Avenue. Vendors that frequent Alberta's Last Thursday celebration will be there, as well as its assortment of wandering stilt-people, live bands and clowns on fixies.

The street's growing clusters of food carts, such as the Grilled Cheese Grill, Spud Locker (a baked potato bar), and Homegrown Smoker's vegan barbecue will be ready to feed the hungered masses. Boutiques Read the rest of this entry »
