Largest Portland Oktoberfest: 4,000 + People @ Widmer Brothers | September 12

This summer has been a blur of big festivals and parties, but this coming weekend might rival any of the top ones. There is the Old Town Block Party, the Belmont Street Fair, Portland Creative Conference, Max Green Line Celebration, and now the largest Oktoberfest in Portland @ Widmer Brothers. PLUS, it is free! Portland's Old Town Block Party + Hung Far Low Sign Re-Erection | September 12

September marks the last month of many of Portland's big street parties thanks to oncoming rainy season. The Hung Far Low sign was taken down last year leading to a bit of a freak out amongst some Portlanders. We can't lose our famous penis joke sign, so thanks to twelve grand in tax dollars it's back…and with a big block  party to match.

I've heard a pretty sweet surprise musical guest not listed below (Update: Lifesavas). I'm not allowed to say who that is, but if you like the hippy-hop, you will be in for a treat.

The Old Town Family proudly presents the first annual…

The Old Town Block Party is happening September 12th, 2009. City Center Parking lot, located on NW 5th av., between Couch and Davis. 3pm-10pm, all ages, free.

The concept for the Old Town Block Party first took form around the desire to re-hang the neighborhood's historic Hung Far Low sign; a sign for a defunct restaurant that was deemed a public safety hazard.  After coming together behind the common cause of historical importance, the creative juices starting flowing.  How could an event come about tto both celebrate the history of Old Town/Chinatown while showcasing the burgeoning creative community?  The answer came naturally: a block party, highlighting the local businesses and agencies in the neighborhood, complete with live music, art, food and drink.
