First Thursday @ Ron Jeremy's Club Sesso: Open House & Erotic Art Exhibit

Taken on August 30, 2009

Description:

This was by far one of the most challenging photo shoots I've done in a long while.

The model and I arrived at the bridge at about 4:45 in the morning. Believe it or not, but there is still a heavy amount of traffic coming from both sides, even at that early hour. At each end of the bridge there is a traffic signal and we waited for each side to sync with a red light.

When that would happen, we had a window of about 15 seconds before cars would come barreling across the bridge from both directions, 4 seconds of those dedicated purely to the exposure (it was still very dark).

It was almost like synchronized swimming in a way and we repeated the process about four times crossing out fingers that one of the shots would turn out well.

Ron Jeremy's Club Sesso has its first First Thursday art show tomorrow. Andrew Kaiser is the featured artist and his work is beautiful as you can see from this shot at St John's Bridge (You can view more of his work on Flickr here = NSFW). Also, if you haven't been in Club Sesso before, here is a chance to check it out at a “non-sexual event and FREE of charge”. No word on whether Ron will be there.

Bacon – KING BABY

Baconfest 2009 will take place on October 3rd from 3-10pm @ The East Burn and will be MC'd by Emily Gibson of The Meat Show.

This event will be chockfull of both calories and entertainment:

  • Half Pipe - Bacon skateboards will be there to shred the half pipe between bands with sexy pro-skaters. Hot.
  • Bacon Eating Contest – The 5 coronary artery hardening rounds would consist of eating 6 inch BLT's, Voodoo Doughnut maple bacon bars, bacon wrapped bananas, Bacon Salted peeps, and bacon ice cream sundaes. Winner waddles home with a Traeger grill.
  • Bacon Dance Off featuring  8 contestants dancing while consuming bacon.  For every song you must consume a piece of bacon, or facon.  The second your dance slows or becomes pathetic you are eliminated. The winner gets an ipod touch loaded with bacon apps.
  • Bacon Confessional – like HBO's Taxicab Confessions but more ridiculous/embarrassing/humiliating. Speak with Baconfest's priest to cleanse yourself of your bacon sins.  Best confessional walks away with $50 in itunes gift cards.
  • Count the Bacon – seems easy enough… unless it's bacon bits…
  • Bacon Inspired Merch from: Baconshirts.com – self-explanatory  / Mountain Girl Silver – “bacon bling” / Bacon Salt — because “everything should taste like bacon” / Bacon Skateboards sick boards + shwag / PDX.FM
  • Music (but is it bacon inspired..?)  from Ether Circus, Blood Eagle, The Dry County Crooks, Super Secret Band, and Neapolitan beard.

Portland's 58th Greek Festival: October 2,3,4

The Greek Festival is one of Portland's best events of the year. Great food, great entertainment and 15,000 atenndees.

From the Greek Festival website (aka GoHoly Trinity)

Portland Greek Festival
Immigrants for Greece began arriving to the Northwest in the late 1800s to work in fishing, lumber, railroad and other jobs. Settling in Portland they established their church, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in southeast Portland. Moving to a new and larger church on 32nd and NE Glisan in 1952, the mortgage had to be paid off. The ladies decided to help by holding a bazaar with their handwork, food, pastries, music and dances from their homeland. This was the beginning of what is no known as the Annual Greek Festival which is one of the largest of its kind.

The Greek Festival remains a wonderful opportunity for us to share annually with over 15,000 guests from the Portland Metropolitan area our beautiful Greek Orthodox faith, our cherished cultural traditions, food, music, and dance.

Each year we award a portion of our festival proceeds to worthy philanthropic endeavors in the greater Portland community. Most recently, we have supported Read the rest of this entry »

The Wedge Cheese Festival @ Green Dragon Pub | October 3

Posted by Kristem Imes

Cheese nerds of the world, unite.

A couple days ago I joked that I was detoxing from dairy and that I needed a 12-step program wedge cheesebecause I find it so hard to give up cheese. Amazingly, little did I know that cheese has actually been proven to be addictive. Why is cheese addictive? Because it contains opiates (seriously). Milk naturally contains casein molecules which, when digested, break apart to release tiny, powerful opiate molecules, called casomorphins. These casomorphins can be found insubstantially higher quantities in cheese than other dairy products (it takes about 10 pounds of milk to make 1 pound of hard cheese). Crazy, huh? But I digress…

The Wedge is a celebration of Pacific Northwest farmstead and regional artisan cheesemakers who will be featuring their local cheeses in a farmers market style street festival from 10am — 4pm in front of the Green Dragon Pub.

Here you can sample their goods, learn how to make your own cheese, build sandwich at the grilled cheese bar, and attend educational seminars like how to opiates and alcohol, well, kind of… Read the rest of this entry »
