Meetin Celebration Video
September 07, 2008

This week, people are coming from all over the US and world for the annual Meetin Celebration party. They pick a new city every year, and this time it will be in Portland. Meetin is a website where people find link-minded others to attend (& create) events together. I've been to many of these and met good people and had good times.

They have events going on all week and you can see a full list of events currently posted for that weekend here: meetin.org but the main event will be Friday night at the Fez Ballroom. This event will be large as over 1500 people have already looked at the event and 200 have RSVPed. If you want to meet some of the local Meetin people, there will also be the monthly Mingler this Tuesday @ Thirsty Lion (info after the break). I've been to a few of these and they are always well attended.

Portland's Hawthorne Street Fair is THIS Sunday: August 16, 2009

There are going to be a lot of great events this weekend and I just updated our Portland Events listings so you can keep up. One of the best events will be the Hawthorne Street Fair which is on Sunday this year.

Pipeline tips/suggestions: It is always nice to get one of those outside tables at Bagdad & watch the people. Also, Dollar Scholar: If you like hot dogs (had them last year) and cheap items, be sure to stop by there.

Message from Cora @ Ladd's Inn: Come on down to lower Hawthorne and get a nice table at the Ladd's for our stage! PCG (Pure Country Gold), Rapids, Sprinkles and MORE! Starts at 12pm!

20,000 People! Portland (Providence) Bridge Pedal Pictures, Video & Tweets

The Portland/ Providence Bridge Pedal was a huge success. The weather was perfect for a 20+ mile bike ride today with temps around 67 degrees this morning. Estimates of 20,000 people were at the event.

There are many pics and tweets about the event, but Nick summed it up rather well with this tweet:

Are you on twitter? Follow @PDXBIKES here and post your bike pics, events, & info using the #pdxbikes tag.

Jonathan was apparently in a helicopter flying over the action to take some pics. WOW. There is a a great post from him with info and comments on BikePortland here.

Volunteers Needed For Manor of Art: 10-Day Portland Festival of Visual Art, Music & Performance | August 14-23

Manor of Art is this coming week. This is going to be an amazing event with 120 rooms of art featuring 100 artists (I believe the number is actually 150 now) & 20 bands. You can read the press release here. I spoke with Chris Haberman, co-organizer, last night and he said they have about 600 of hours needed to be filled by volunteers.

The positions/shifts needed are after the break. If you have time, please sign up. This is going to be a very memorable event for anyone involved. HEY, and you get free drinks!

From Manor of Art volunteer coordinator Leigh Lowry:

Manor of Art is a 10 day art and music celebration staffed entirely by volunteers!  We are seeking event volunteers for 3 hour shifts on August 14th, 15th, 21st, and 22nd as well as gallery volunteers on August 16th through 20th in either two hours or four hour shifts.  All volunteers will receive drink tickets (to be used before or after their shift; the bar will be open every day!!  SCORE!)  as well as snacks and, of course, an inside view at an incredible show.  Anyone interested can contact me at leigh.lowry@milepostfive.com.

These are the full volunteer descriptions (after the break): Read the rest of this entry »
