From Leigh Feldman:

Portland Weekend EventsThings I'm currently jocking…
Free music ish… this mix DJ Fashen. He's gonna be in PDX at the end of the month. It would probably be a good idea to go and see him. Especially because the party is free! (more info soon) – http://www.mediafire.com/?jndqyo2noud

The ridiculousness that is this weekend!! … Events in this city get better and better — drink tastings, costume parties, bike rides, fashion shows, house parties, barbq's, dance nights, concerts and tons more! This weekend, less than an hour outside of the city there are quite a few interesting events happening which surely prove that Portland is not the only spot in Oregon keeping it weird… check out events like Turkeyrama, Mt. Hood Loop Cherry Festival, The Buckeroo Rodeo, The Sasquatch Festival, Glow in the Dark Tag and so much more!

Life is a party, everyone is just waiting to be invited.
See you all out and about!

Worth Watching: Rocket, Belle of the Monkey Bars

Interview by Saundra Sorenson

Rocket by Christine Taylor

It isn’t often you meet up with a girl you’ve already seen naked and suddenly have an overwhelming desire to be BFFs. But that’s how I felt over a cup of coffee with Rocket, the (currently) blue-haired knockout who stands 6’3” in Lucite heels and maintains a chameleon-like presence on the web as she becomes increasingly recognized for her skills on the monkey bars. Think of her as an urban Dita von Teese, crafting a career in both entertainment and nude modeling.

Portland isn’t a city where “exotic dancing” is a particularly divisive issue; you don’t find yourself getting into many discussions about naked dance’s place in Third Wave Feminism, nor do many residents seem up in arms about the Starbucks-like presence of strip clubs throughout the city. And if you want to dance, you don’t necessarily argue semantics. Well, Rocket doesn’t.

“I’m a stripper,” she says plainly, although she regards it as a craft (“Hands-down the best pole dancer I’ve seen anywhere is Cricket,” she says with reverance), lugging a suitcase full of costumes and paying special attention to her playlist as she hones her unique agility onstage.

She holds an English degree (“I’ve read all the stripping memoirs!”) she laughs at the mention of Diablo Cody’s Candy Girl), a certification in personal training and an impressive resume in Read the rest of this entry »

Portland Theater: (Star) Trek In The Park | July 11-26

Update: 2010 Trek In The Park @ Woodlawn Park

Playing it by (Vulcan) ear

Spock-Pon FarrFor the first time in my life I watched Star Trek a few nights ago while at The Nest. Not like I had really been consciously avoiding it all these years, but just completely disinterested. Or maybe it was just all the hype. I mean, when movies are made about "the universe's most fervent fans" (Trekkies), it makes me a little skeptical… (but then again, how good was Heavy Metal Parking Lot?) But after seeing Star Trek, I think almost understand. Lifelong fan or not, there is no way I am missing Trek in the Park.

Atomic Arts' Trek in the Park is a free, live, theater performance of the Star Trek episode "Amok Time" at the Woodlawn Park amphitheater. Witness Spock undergo the bizarre and brutal Vulcan marriage ritual of Pon Farr as the crew of the Read the rest of this entry »
