Did you think the bike parties were over just b/c Pedalpalooza and World Naked Bike ride have passed us by? Wrong. The Portland Night Ride is this weekend and looks like a lot of fun after watching that video.

THE NIGHT RIDE is a fantastically fun (and easy!) 15-mile bicycle ride happening on July 11. The route, starting and ending at the Portland train station, features fire dancers, an outdoor screening of movies from the wildly popular Filmed by Bike festival, a disco party rest stop, mysteries at every turn and well-marked routes with glowing signs. The Last Regiment of Syncopated Drummers kicks off the ride, and Zimba Marimba brings it to a close at the finish line ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT DOUGHNUT FEAST!

Channing Frye
The team decided against picking up Channing Frye's team option. He was given plenty of opportunity, but ended up playing himself out of the rotation. The good (and bad?) news for Frye is that it's what he did off the court that will define him as a Blazer; via his blog, he embraced the community and made an effort to explore and experience all the great things Portland has to offer. He reviewed movies, restaurants, bars and shops. The NBA rumor mill currently puts him in Phoenix, Denver, San Antonio or Cleveland. Not too bad.

Paper Bird flocks to Portland

Nothing says fun times like a trio of beautiful ladies singing old time music in a new way. Paper Bird, Paper bird of Denver, photo by sir james holdenfresh from the release of their new album, Anything Nameless and Joymaking, comes to Portland tomorrow for what is guaranteed to be a great show. The Denver based band boasts an impressive lineup featuring three vocalists, guitar, trumpet, trombone, banjo, and a double bass. Paper Bird formed in 2006 and quickly acquired a national following playing their native Denver and touring across the country. The group was recently voted the #3 local band in the Denver Post are stopping off in Portland before making their way to the Oregon Country Fair.
