WebVisions is Tomorrow: Top 8 Reasons You, The Not-Geek, Should Go
May 19, 2009 — PDXPIPELINEPosted by Stephanie El-Hajj
I sat down with Scott Kveton, formerly of Vidoop, currently
of the Software Association of Oregon and of Bac'n.com, and WebVisions Speaker about why non-geeks should attend WebVisions. Turns out, there are a number of reasons non-geeks should go; eight, actually.
We've even gone so far as to list them out for you.
1. The web is part of your life. Learn tips, tricks, and other fun things that will improve your online experience.
2. Benefits of networking/adopt a geek. You need three people in your life, a handyman, a doctor, and someone who can show you how to use technology properly.
3. Find a new hobby or career path. Get inspired; learn about Cyborg Anthropology, Online Community Management, and how Twitter can make you famous.
4. Learn how and why to Twitter. (follow @pdxpipeline when you do)
5. Find out what "Whuffle" really means. Waffle? Whiffle? WTF?
6. Get your party on. Geeks know how to party. This week you won't sleep with the amount of activities in and surrounding WebVisions. Pack your Viso.
7. Be an Ambassador. Understand what your kid, sister, boss, or roommate means when they use words like ‘Open Source', ‘API', or god forbid, ‘Hashtag'.
8. Finally, it's a great excuse to get out of whatever you're doing. Question: Got back-to-back meetings but are running out of vacation time and sick days? Answer: I am out of office attending WebVisions, and will not be responding to email.
Still not enough? Google "WebVisions" and hear directly from the community.
