Cinco De Lebowski @ Laurelhurst Park & Bagdad Theater | May 1

May is arriving shortly and that means there is going to be a ton of events this Friday and throughout the coming summer. Still, if you are a Big Lebowski fan, you really can't beat this one. This dude abides…*

Also, let me say (to anyone who hasn't heard me say it over and over)  that there was a WALTER SOBCHAK LOOK ALIKE at Bridgetown Comedy Fest and he told me I was “over the line”. It was awesome.

From the “Fatboy” at KUFO:
big lebowskiThis Friday is not only May Day, it's a holiday Portland seems to be embracing almost as tightly as a tall can of Pabst and a bag full of books in the sell-back line at Powells.

It's the 4th Annual Cinco De Lebowski.

The Cort and Fatboy Midnight Movie, occurring the first Friday of every month, has been Lebowski-flavored every May. Last year, the March of the Lebowskis was introduced, a parade of Dudes, bathrobed and abiding, starting at the basketball courts in Laurelhurst Park on the corner of SE 39th and SE Stark, and strolling casually towards The Bagdad Theater on the corner of 37th and Hawthorne. This year, the March is not optional: The only way to get into Cinco De Lebowski IV: The Day of the Lebowskis is to join the March.

Playoffs Recap: Blazers vs Rockets | Game 4

(For Blazers playoff coverage: 2009 NBA Playoff Coverage: Portland Trail Blazers)

Big Shot Battier?

Yesterday I wrote that last night's game was 'do or die' for the Blazers. Well, they didn't “do.” For a Blazer team that has handled adversity with so much poise throughout the year, they made a lot of uncharacteristic mistakes down the stretch last night. Joel Przybilla rushed a pass that ended up 3 rows into the stands on the other side of the court. Steve Blake didn't account for Ron Artest behind him on a fast break. Brandon Roy went a little too hard at the rim.

When we lose to the Rockets, the game changes but the stories stay the same: the Blazers got outrebounded, Greg Oden couldn't stay on the floor and the Rockets got to the free-throw line, as they're always the aggressors.

They're losing, but at the same time, they're learning how to win. Matched up with a veteran Rockets team that's collectively way more experienced, they're putting up a fight. Experiencing first hand exactly what it takes to win at this level.

You're going to read and hear a lot of negative things; f Read the rest of this entry »

That show looks like a wild affair. I am still wondering how Austin was able to move so well through that insanity to get so many different angles. I'm guessing he knocked at least one beer out of someone's hands. Good Stuff…

Mike Thrasher Presents (Facebook page/show list) has some more great shows in May & we will be giving away tickets to almost all of them to our Portland Facebook Group friends. Join and win.

Playoffs Preview: Blazers vs Rockets | Game 4

Game 4 Preview: Do or Die

With a loss putting the Blazers in a 1-3 hole, basically guaranteeing a first round exit, tonight's critical game 4 becomes a must win.

The burning questions:

  • Can Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge overcome the Rockets' defensive schemes?
  • Can we slow down Yao Ming three games in a row?
  • Can Greg Oden capitalize on his size advantage?
  • Will Luis Scola just go away?
  • Will Aaron Brooks finally remember that he's Arron Brooks?
  • Can Joel Przybilla, Oden and the Blazers control the boards?
  • Will Roy and Aldridge get any offensive help?

Instead of rolling over when things went bad in game 2, the Blazers battled back. Proving to themselves that they're capable of running with the Rockets in their house. Now it's just a matter of reproducing that effort. In order to do that, the Blazers must come out as the aggressors and set the tone early. Both teams know what's at stake tonight, don't expect the Rockets get caught looking ahead.

Tonight we find out if the Blazers' championship evolution is ahead of schedule, like so many thought it was, or if they're still a year or two away.

Blazer Bruce
Massive 6 Dance Party
Crown Room
Portland, Oregon

Last night was a full one. After watching a ton of comedy at Bridgetown Comedy Fest and Golden Bears at Someday Lounge, we headed over to Leigh's famous dance party, Massive. We got there just in time to catch fantastic fashion show and see the surprise guest, BLAZER BRUCE.

Fun times…I'm exhausted

This is the best photo of Blazer Bruce (bonus Police) I have seen.

Bridgetown Comedy Festival: Sunday 5:30 p.m.

Posted by Meagan Kate

Wandering up and down Hawthorne with nothing jenene garafalo at Bridgetown Comedy Festivalbut cheap beer flowing through my veins, I realized I was walking behind a dude I've seen on TV. Across the street, another dude from TV. I started to realize that I watch entirely too much television … then I snapped myself out of it and started to realize that this was the beauty of the Bridgetown Comedy Festival.

Over the course of three hours, I saw five of my favorite comedians in some of the most intimate settings in Portland. I don't want to brag, but during an awkward encounter at the Hawthorne Theater, I brushed up against Janeane Garofalo with my chest. Think about that a little harder – with my chest. Janeane. My chest. Amazing.

I honestly walked up and down Hawthorne alone, popping in and out of the venues. It allowed me to feel the different (very different) vibes in each club, while encountering some comics who have become new favorites of mine.

I also made sure to see the people I wanted to – like  Natasha Leggero. I watched the tiny brunette with a bright red coat walk from the Mt. Tabor Legacy to the ever-popular Eagle's Club … and I followed her. Whatever. I popped in on a very funny set by James Adomian (a new favorite) and grabbed a beer. I sat at one of the large round tables that reminded me of my middle school lunch room, and who sat next to me? Natasha Leggero.

I began to hyperventilate. I leaned over and Read the rest of this entry »

'Ridiculous Foul Called on Greg Oden'
Playoffs, Game 3
Portland Trail Blazers vs Houston Rockets
April 24, 2009
Video by brandonmitchellorg

Description on Youtube:

Dear NBA,
I am a Portland Trailblazer fan and I love to watch basketball. I do however have a recurring problem that has become to incredibly ridiculous that it's making me less interested in continuing to watch this beloved sport. We Oregonians would appreciate if you stopped making calls on Greg Oden that do not warrant a whistle to be blown (example in this video). We really would like to see our #1 draft pick take off and show us his abilities but you simply wont let him.

Please free Oden and make the right calls.
Coming soon… www.freeoden.com

Footage provided by www.kgw.com

So Portlanders, what do you think about these fouls? Was that call sent directly from NBA HQ and Dick Cheney David Stern? Is the series being called evenly? Can we really blame these two losses on the foul calling?

Playoffs Recap: Blazers vs Rockets | Game 3

What almost was.

The Blazers held Yao Ming to 7 points last night and still lost. That's a tough pill to swallow.

Offensively, the Blazers finally got some help from Rudy Fernandez, who recaptured his regular season magic. Hitting big shot after big shot late in the game, including a fade away three that brought the Blazers within 1 in the final seconds of the 4th quarter. Unfortunately, it came on a night when Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge were bothered by the Rockets' defense and had poor shooting nights because of it. Roy fouled out (a 'quiet' six fouls) with 19 (6-18) and Aldridge had 13 (6 -15). Aside from a couple turnovers and an errant three late in the game, Steve Blake woke up and scored 16.

You're going to read a lot about Steve Blake's inability to lead this team, Read the rest of this entry »
