We are also giving two pairs of tickets away to this show. How to win them? Simply comment on the post below and we will draw names of the winners on Friday around 1PM 8ish. We will add a comment to the link of the video drawing. If you enter and are on Twitter, follow us (@pdxpipeline)  and mention your twitter username in the comment and we will give you two entries.

Initially regarded as one of the most promising rappers to emerge in the late '90s, Mos Def turned to acting in subsequent years as music became a secondary concern for him. He did release new music from time to time, including albums such as The New Danger (2004), but his output was erratic and seemingly governed by whim.

Mos Def nonetheless continued to draw attention, especially from critics and underground rap fans, and his classic breakthrough albums — Black Star (1998), a collaboration with Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek; and Black on Both Sides (1999), his solo debut — continued to be revered, all the more so as time marched forward. Mos Def often used his renown for political purposes, protesting in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the Jena Six incident in 2007, for instance.

DJ Party: Mark Farina & Filastine on Mississippi | April 10

This is a good show. Mark Farina's Mushroom Jazz albums are great Add Filastine and many local DJs and you have a big Friday party. I went to Anonymous's Digable Planets show a few months back at this location and it was packed and partying. I'm sure this will be the same.

20 Stories About 20 Towns in New Jersey | April 9 @ Worksound

Posted by Christine Taylor

So why do you want to head to WorkSound Gallery at 7:30pm christine taylor phototo see '20 Stories About 20 Towns in New Jersey'  and listen to a couple very articulate writers read fiction about New Jersey?  Because this reading is not your typical snore!  It is a conceptual reading, with wine, art, and tunes.

Authors Erik Bader and Matthew Korfhage came up with the idea to write 20 very short stories about 20 small New Jersey towns chosen at random that are, "situated at the exact geographic center of heartache, memory, and god-damned freedom".

I cannot think of a better reason to attend.

Location: WorkSound Gallery
Street: 820 SE Alder Street
Time: 7:30pm – 9:00pm

Interesting Portland: Speakers & Donuts | April 9

Interesting Portland happens Thursday and looks like a fun event (donut eating contest…yes!). I asked Emily (founder/organizer) what the difference is between Interesting Portland and Ignite Portland, a similar and highly successful event here in PDX.

Here is her answer:
Interesting PortlandFirst of all -the basic idea is the same ie a bunch of short speeches. Just as Ignite is modeled after Pecha Kucha, we're loosely modeled after TED.

The main differences are:

* Ignite and PK both have the speakers talk for 20 slides that rotate automatically after 15 seconds while ours are open. Some have no slides/just talk and others are  audience participation. This time we have a donut eating contest.

*We don't allow any selling of any sort on stage during the talks or via the sponsorships-just stuff donated that makes it more interesting (like a woman who gave out cheese). This time we'll have soup, organic cocktail mixes and a couple of other surprises. This means we charge for tickets to cover the cost.

*Ignite caters to the tech crowd and PK to the design crowd while ours is geared towards a wider audience (from artists, to science guys to my Aunt Lani)

So basically, it's like TED with locals for $16 vs $4000

Or like Ignite for the non-tech crowd.
