Win or go home, again.

Portland Trail blazers

The Blazers are back in Houston for the 5th time this season, where they're currently winless. Can they finally take one on the Rocket's home court to force a game 7?

We know the teams. We know what's at stake tonight. At this point in in a playoff series, there are no secrets. Everyone's out of surprises. Teams know each others plays. They know how their opposition is scheming against them. Teams win these games by executing.

Ladytron & The Faint North American Tour | May 1 @ Roseland

Ladytron and The Faint North American Co-Headline Tour 2009

Currently touring with The Faint as part of the Ladytron & The Faint in PortlandNorth American Co-Headline Tour, having opened for Nine Inch Nails at the request of Trent Reznor in 2007, and joining with Depeche Mode for some shows this May, Ladytron have established themselves as one of the top pop/electronic/rock bands that you absolutely must see live if given the opportunity.

Their newest album, Velocifero, is undeniably the most dancable to date; "Black Cat" sets the tone for the album with a rhythmic drum and bass beat that you cannot help but move along with and vocalist Mira Aroyo adds a mysterious element to the song by singing her native language of Bulgarian. The album continues with pop/electro beats that are distinct to Ladytron — sometimes spooky/goth-inspired and ethereal, but also energetic and poppy.

Check out samples of their music on their website at ladytron.nettwerk.com and follow them on twitter: @ladytronmusic.

Game 5 Recap: Portland Trail Blazers vs Houston Rockets | NBA Playoffs

(For Blazers playoff coverage: 2009 NBA Playoff Coverage: Portland Trail Blazers)

A Road Win Away From Round 2?

Just when you thought they were dead, the Blazers Portland Trail Blazers Playoffsmight be who we thought they were.

Aside from a few lapses in the 3rd and 4th quarters, the Blazers finally played their game Tuesday. They out rebounded the Rockets, forced turnovers, had four players in double digits, attacked the basket and Blazers not named Brandon Roy got to the freethrow line. It looked like the Blazers had finally shed their playoff nerves and reverted back to playing the basketball that got them a home court advantage.

And the referees let them slug it out. The veteran crew of Dan Crawford, Bill Spooner and Leon Wood decided it would be best of they just let the teams play. In a series that's been plagued by touch fouls and seemingly endless quarters because the Blazers are in the penalty the 10 minute mark, we finally got to see them play playoff basketball.

Over the series, many fans have been vocal about Rudy Fernandez's lack of minutes. Last night we saw him takeover Nicolas Batum's. Fernandez was not only the first player off the bench for Nate McMillan, but started over Batum at the beginning of the 3rd quarter. Fernandez didn't do anything spectacular on the offensive side of the ball (7 points), the real difference he made came defensively with 3 steals and 2 blocks over 35 minutes.

It's unfortunate they didn't regain their confidence earlier, but the Blazers are far from dead.

The focus now shifts to tomorrow's game 6.

Stanton Warriors: Bring the Beat Back!

Stanton Warriors

Check out this freaking amazing lineup (seriously, Portland is spoiled): Stanton Warriors (headliners), Jaden, DJ Three, Zita, Nicky Mason & Chase Manhattan, J Renegade, Lets Go Outside, George Holland, DJ Wiggles, and Blue Submarine.

Stanton Warriors, a delicious duo that hails from Britain, and a force seriously into mixing and producing breaks that make you want to dance your pants off. At the last Breakspoll awards, Stanton Warriors were recently voted the #1 breaks DJs in the world and their latest album, Stanton Sessions 3 was voted best Compilation CD of the year.

With their signature sound and the confidence borne from playing for crowds in the thousands, these guys are definitely not new to the game, and …well they're kind of a big deal.  I talked to Jaden, Read the rest of this entry »

Commissioner Randy Leonard OMFG!!! | The Definitive Interview

By Nathalie Weinstein

If you were thinking of challenging Commissioner Portland Commissioner Randy LeonardRandy Leonard to a karaoke duel, make sure your Mustang Sally is polished and ready. Over Subway sandwiches at city hall, PDX Pipeline caught up with the commissioner, who does a mean rendition of the Wilson Pickett classic. He also has an undying love for local blues great Curtis Salgado, and was once a performer in a Blue Brothers cover band. He gave us his two cents on Major League Soccer, the Rose Quarter and the best food in Portland.

PDX: Is the Timbers name going to be retained?

RL: Apparently Merritt Paulson announced he was keeping the name.  The name will stay and we will be getting major league players.

PDX: So no open auditions for Portland soccer players?

RL: There might be. But they'd have to be of that level. I wouldn't be able to play. I can say that pretty confidently. That would be an example of someone who shouldn't play

PDX: There's been a lot of discussion about the Rose Quarter lately. How do you see that area developing? Read the rest of this entry »

Elimination Looms

Portland Trail blazers

This is what the NBA playoffs are all about.

Tonight, most of the story stays the same: the Blazers must rebound and help out Brandon Roy offensively. They need to be aggressive. Take the ball inside and get to the freethrow line.

The most interesting dynamic involves Nate McMillan and the referees. McMillan spoke publicly about the (shitty) officiating after game 4. Saying that the referees needed to be more consistent; they cant protect Yao Ming (See Greg Oden/Joel Przybilla's lack of minutes) and allow Shane Battier and Ron Artest to mug Brandon Roy.

Talking points:

* Will we see the LaMarcus Aldridge of game 2 or game 4?
* Can Oden play more than 11.5 minutes?
* What kind of game 5 does Roy have in him?
* How will Travis Outlaw react after his solid game 4?
* How will Coach McMillan handle the minutes in an all or nothing elimination game?
* Will Rudy Fernandez see extended minutes?
* Will the refs not suck?
* Will the Blazers come out nervous?
* Can a Blazer not named Brandon Roy get to the freethrow line more than once?

It's an elimination game, look for the refs to back off and let the teams slug this one out.

Enjoy what might be the last Blazer game of the season.

Las Vegas believes the Blazers are 5.5 points better than the rockets
