A-WOL 3-6-9: 9 choreographers, 6 minute pieces, 3 dancers at a time

A-Wol Dance, Portland, Oregon3-6-9: 9 choreographers from around Portland, LA, San Francisco and Tuscon… 6 minute pieces… 3 dancers at a time

A-WOL is a dance organization known for their above-the-ground aerial dancing, however for this particular event they've chosen to mix it up a little.  The dancing will be mostly grounded, however that doesn't mean it won't be original and captivating.  The format for this performance is 3 dancers each for 6 minutes, doing a piece by one of 9 total choreographers, each with their own unique style.  Don't think this is your average dry ballet performance either; the style and movements are different from traditional dance, and yet still have an air of grace and poise.  You won't want to miss this one.

Buckman Elementary: Voodoo & Art | March 7

Did your elementary school have a”Communications & Marketing Team”? I am going to say “NO”. Probably, because your elementary school was in the Midwest and didn't have cool art shows or Voodoo making doughnuts for said art shows. Buckman Elementary on the other hand, has their own doughnuts and a marketing team because of events like this:

From Karen, Communications & Marketing Team Leader:
Buckman Elementary Art Sale

I thought I'd send a little reminder that the Buckman Art Show & Sell is this weekend! Friday from 5 to 9pm, and Saturday from 10am to 5pm, at Buckman Arts Focus Elementary School, 320 SE 16th Avenue (just north of Stark), in Portland.

The Buckman Art Show & Sell is a fun indoor arts fair, with nearly 130 artists and craftspersons selling their incredible work (everything from paintings and sculpture to jewelry, hats and toys). Plus, there's student artwork, music (including some blues & folk from Nick O'Donnell, of A Cautionary Tale, and friends on Saturday), free kids' art activities, food, coffee drinks, and even special Buckman doughnuts by Voodoo Doughnuts.

It's a great way to spend a chilly late winter weekend, and the best part is that it helps support local artists and a great Portland elementary school. Website

From Pet Marmoset:

This Saturday night at Holocene in downtown Portland, Team Marmoset will be "using our power for good", as we present, "Writer's Block" – a benefit show, with all proceeds going to the Oregon Food Bank.

Writer's Block is a little idea we came up with to accomplish a couple of things in the community. First off, we are all quite aware of the unfortunate and challenging economic situation the world has quickly fallen victim to. This new Writer's Block series will be a vehicle for raising awareness of our community's needs and raising both funds and food for one of the better community service organizations in town.

The second objective for this event is to bring together a diverse number of singer-songwriters from the Portland community and feature the core of their talent – songwriting – in a simplified, stripped-down presentation. As you can see, many of the artists participating in this first edition of the Writer's Block series are songwriters and leads for successful Northwest-based bands. Others are Read the rest of this entry »
