Portland State Monday Art Lectures: Modou Dieng

We encourage you to go to all of these lectures. However, we suggest this one even more because Modou is both a friend of the Pipeline and a great talent we have in our city. If you are able to speak with him before or after the lecture, ask him about his plane's emergency landing on an unmapped island in the Atlantic last year…always a favorite story for us.

From the press release:
PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY MFA MONDAY NIGHT LECTURE SERIES

Modou Dieng Will Lecture About His Work!
The Public is Invited (it's free, tell your friends)
Monday March 2nd, 7:30pm Sharp!
Shattuck Hall Annex
at the corner of SW Broadway and Hall on the PSU campus

Modou Dieng is a multidisciplinary artist working in mixed-media, painting, photography and installation. Dieng's interests lie in conceptualizing visions of contemporary life constituted by a mix of humanity, topography, and pastiche of forms. Dieng evokes the city's continuously changing façade, as well as the hybrid character and eclectic combination. The issues deal with urban history, race, social status, gender, cosmopolitanism, and belonging.

March Fourth at Bossanova: March 1-4

If you have seen March Fourth, you know it is one of the best performances in our city. Their current shows are a bit special though as it is their week and they have a venue that suits their insanity.

We'll be there Monday night to take some some video and also live-streamage. Tune in at 7:30 or so to see this live from your bed or work or living room and know why you need to buy tickets to the remaining shows.

From the website:

March Fourth Marching Band's 6th birthday is just around the corner!

They're busy planning their “four days, five shows, six years” Anniversary Spectacular and you're invited! There will be something for (almost) everyone this year, as they return to their eastside roots for shows on March 1, 2, 3, and 4, 2009 at Bossanova Ballroom.

This venue (where M4 celebrated their 1st and 2nd birthdays) allows fire and has a rigging point for aerialists, so look for some new and exciting performances to spice up the band's new songs.

As always, if March 4th is your birthday you get a free ticket* to any one of our birthday shows. Read the rest of this entry »
