Portland Valentine's Weekend Events: February 12-15 | Part 2

Last night, we put up ten or so events to do in Portland this Valentine's weekend that we are giving a golden THUMBS UP. Today, Leigh sent over his Portland party email with an amazing amount of events happening in Portland this weekend. To help you sift through them, we have highlighted in red some that are known to be well attended, good times, or look very interesting.

Portland Skyline

Also, if you want to get Leigh's weekly Portland Party email, message him at twocliche@gmail.com and tell him Pipeline sent ya over.

From Leigh Feldman:

Love is in the air. Can't you feel it?? Fine. Be that way.

But lust is definitely in the air, so for sure curl up next to your boo/boy/girl/lady friend/intimate partner with which things are complicated or someone you just met and enjoy Valentine's Day together.

Then get down and dirty with this mix brought to you by DJ Zimmie. Backrub Volume 2 – http://www.mediafire.com/?zmrdwi5tvyj

I wish you all the best with any love plans you have and/or plans you make through CL casual encounters. See you out and about. Leigh Feldman

How to Disappear Completely and Never Be Found | Portland Center Stage

[ Video=Cody Nickell draws winning name in our twitter ticket giveaway]

“I don't ever leave the stage,” actor Cody Nickell explains. “It's an exhausting journey that this guy Charlie takes. I had to learn to pace myself, so I'm not exhausted at the end of the day.” Nickell landed in Portland with his wife Kate Eastwood Norris to start rehearsal on Dec 29th. The actors work with voice coach Stephanie Gaslin to get the London accent. “The union allows a certain amount of hours during the day,” Nickell clarifies. “So we opted for staight sixes with a twenty minute break.” They did four weeks of rehearsal.

Nickell plays an ad executive whose life crumbles around him. “The cast and director are people I really trust, so that makes it easier to go to the darker places I have to go.”

Around the World in 17 Days: The 32nd Portland International Film Festival

By Kimberly Gehl:

Portland International Film Festival (PIFF) bannerThe 32nd Portland International Film Festival is officially in full swing and if you haven't checked out any of the films yet, you still have plenty of time to do so because the festival is running through February 21st. This year's festival features 115 films from 42 countries, as well as some intriguing Shorts Programs that feature sets of international, Oregon-made, and experimental shorts. General Admission to every unique, intriguing and well-crafted film is just $9, and only $8 for Portland Art Museum Members and $6 for NW Film Center Members and Children 12 and under.

The festival website advises that you purchase your tickets in advance online but if you arrive early, you can also purchase tickets before the show – if they are still available – at the Festival Ticket Outlet in the lobby of the Portland Art Museum.

So now that all the technicalities are out of the way, I bet the question you really want answered is “Which film(s) should I see?” Being a cinephile myself, every film looks great to me, so I'm not going to tell you which films you should or shouldn't see because it really is a matter of personal preference. Fortunately, there are a plethora of amazing films to please everyone's individual tastes, everything from Read the rest of this entry »

Upstream Battle, a German Documentary playing at PIFF

By Arthur Smid

Upstream battle, Portland International Film FestUpstream Battle showing at the Portland International Film Festival is one of the few, the proud, the only German film to feature Oregon politics?! What? Our squabbles over a few dams along the Klamath river interest the Germans? What gives?

Gotta love the Germans. All that historical guilt running them in the right direction. When you're unconscious of evil, you can commit evil acts and believe you are doing good. The German people seeing themselves portrayed as the bad guy in every popular entertainment from the Great War: it's bound to repel everyday Germans from anything that reeks of wrong-doing. The green movement is on good footing in northern Europe.

Let's talk about how the Pacific Northwest sources its power. Read the rest of this entry »
