Free Open Comedy Mic Tonight at Suki's | Sklar Brothers Surprise?

Video of Sklar Brothers in Cheap Seats does the 1997 Spelling Bee

There is free open mic comedy action at Suki's tonight, and unconfirmed and confirmed rumors floating around about the possibility of the Sklar Brothers dropping by. The Sklar Brothers have been in all kinds of comedy over the years, but you might recognize them from the video above (Cheap Seats), Grey's Anatomy or Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Check out IMDB for more info.

What is confirmed: Sklar Brothers are in town shooting a commercial, interested in the local comedy, know about and will likely stop by this show…

What is unconfirmed: That they will actually stop by the show. But again, the words sent to me were “most likely”.

Either way, it is FREE and you should have a good time over there if you like comedy…and you just may catch these Super Sklars.

Event info: Portland's favorite new open mic night for new and used Comics of all stripes. Whether you are the joker at the office or a touring headliner, this is the place to find out in a friendly atmosphere whether you have what if takes. sign up at 8:30 on Tuesday nights with your host Dax Jordan.

Sukis, 2401 SW 4th Ave, Portland, Oregon 97201.

Gilt Club Hosts Happy Hour Benefit for Sisters of the Road | February 24

If you haven't seen Neighborhood Notes, it is a great local resource. They are involved in many benefits for our local community, including one tomorrow for Sisters of the Road.

So, come out to support Sisters of the Road by having drinks with the Notes and the Pipeline.

From their original announcement:

Neighbors Helping Neighbors » Gilt Club Hosts Happy Hour Benefit for Sisters of the Road

Event Date: 02/24/2009 05:00 PM
Event Location: Gilt Club, 306 NW Broadway

Last month, Neighborhood Notes launched a 12-month series of neighborhood fundraisers called Neighbors Helping Neighbors. Each month, we plan to visit a different Portland quadrant and partner with a neighborhood business and non-profit on a community event. In January, we launched the series in northeast Portland's Humboldt neighborhood: Trebol hosted a happy hour fundraiser for its neighbor In Other Words Books.

Our goal is to raise awareness and funds for the non-profit, introduce the business to new customers, and to create an opportunity for neighbors to socialize for a good cause. We cordially invite all Portland residents to attend these monthly fundraisers, whether it's in your part of town or across town—Portland really is better when we support each other. Besides, we think it'll be lots of fun to visit neighborhoods all over Portland and meet more of our neighbors, don't you???

We're pleased to announce that the second Neighbors Helping Neighbors Fundraiser will be held in northwest Portland's Old Town Chinatown: Gilt Club is hosting a happy hour fundraiser to support its neighbor non-profit Sisters of the Road. The event is scheduled on Tuesday, February 24, 5—9 p.m. and Gilt Club is generously donating 20% of the evening's proceeds to Sisters of the Road.

Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey at Goodfoot | Daily Stank Video Bank

Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey
Goodfoot Lounge
Portland, OR
Shot on 2/21/09
Filmed by brewcaster

I've seen Jacob Fred many times over the years, but this might have been the most enjoyable performance. We live streamed it LIVE from the Goodfoot as well (view here). The live-stream quality is not nearly as clean as Brewcaster's HD here, but people definitely enjoyed it and had an interesting experience.

Download their new album for free.

We'll stream many more events over the coming weeks. Stay tuned to KPDXpipeline. We are “in your corner” and “on your side” and the spirit of the NW somewhat distorted live-streamingRead the rest of this entry »

Thank You From PDX Pipeline

Portland Music, Art, Events, Entertainment, Sustainability | PDX PIPELINE

Hello,

We are lucky enough to have several companies and organizations provide us with tickets and other prizes to give away on our twitter. Many of you have retweeted our giveaways or participated in them. I would like to thank you.

So, I have been working on getting a venue in late March/early April for our twitter friends. Those friends that have retweeted us or participated in our contests will have early entry or VIP entry with some catered food, free beer/drinks, gift bags and probably a fashion show/music or something like that.

Also, it would be great if you email me at pdxpipeline@gmail.com so that I could email you when I have the details finalized. I can also alert you when we have new contests. If you would like that alert, just say so in the email.

If you have any venue thoughts or other ideas, let me know or comment below.

Again, Thank You.

Tin House Party for Winter Issue | Disjecta | February 21

By Arthur Smid

I caught the buzz. Matthew Dickman and his twin Arthur Bradfordbrother Michael are really into poetry. I don't know what being submersed as “precogs” in Minority Report has to do with it, but the dialogue that surfaces between the twins is a force of expression when tooled to the page. Matthew won a Tufts award, and his book All-American Poem is the winner of the APR/Honickman First Book Prize. This is to say, his poetry is good. It's accessible and I don't mean accessible in a bad way. These days, I listen for a conversational tone in poetry. I want to hear a human voice.

Matthew Dickman reads this Saturday at the new Disjecta art space.

To celebrate the release of the quarterly magazine, Tin House joined with Disjecta to throw a party. “This is our first one,” Cheston Knapp says of the release party. “So we're trying to see if this is something the people want. As it is, we don't know.” Portland's literary scene attracts some interesting talent. Arthur Bradford will read from his story published in the Winter issue. It's about “a guy who makes LSD in his basement, and he's asked to babysit.” Read the rest of this entry »

Electric Feel at the Fez: A Deeply Satisfying Dancegasm | February 21

By Kimberly Gehl

She got the power in her hand…To shock you like you won't believe.

Fez Ballroom, Flyer

The “she” is DJ Rhienna, whose new hot dance party “Electric Feel” has its second night this Saturday (‘Portland is better than Brooklyn' + Weekend Events: February 19-22 ) at the Fez. “I chose the name (after the MGMT song),” she says, “because it seemed to represent what I was trying to convey in the music – electronica, technology, synth – but also the tactile elements of rock and pop in how it seems to instinctually make people physically respond through contact, movement, dance.”

What I experienced at the first Electric Feel was certainly a deeply satisfying dancegasm, induced by a sexy mix of modern indie electro/dance + 80s new wave/alternative + 90s Brit pop + rock and roll/glam pop + a few of 90s “grinding classics” like “Hypnotize” by The Notorious B.I.G. and “I Wish” by Skee-Lo. A little taste of what you can expect to hear this Saturday night ranges from New Order and Depeche Mode, to Franz Ferdinand and Blur, to White Stripes and Arcade Fire, to Ladytron and the Smiths; DJ Rheinna will have a clipboard available for requests and I guarantee you will hear some amazing dance mixes that you won't hear at any other event or venue in town.

Rhienna has been DJing at the Fez at its weekly “Shut Up and Dance” night as a Read the rest of this entry »

PDX Pipeline is growing. Want to join us?

PDX_pipeline_logo
PDX Pipeline is growing an has been one of the top sites in Portland entertainment for a while now. Tens of thousands of Portlanders come to this site every month. Our traffic is up 300+% over last year and May was 20+% higher than January. We're building a much more robust site and covering many more events these days.

And..well, we have a good group of contributors, but we need more. We are looking for people who want to enjoy Portland, experience events, inform others, and be a part of a fun team.

What we need:

  • Must: Not be a jerk
  • Must: Like to go out to events (choices: art, music, fashion, film, theater)
  • Must: Use/understand “social media” a bit.
  • Would be nice: If you twittered and flickred, vimeod/youtubed.

This is unpaid (except in love, free tix, and drinks with us). But if you are studying in a relative field (journalism, marketing, design, art) at PSU or AiPD, we can possibly (probably) help you get credits to Pipeline it up…

That about covers it. If you are interested, email pdxpipeline@gmail and answer the following questions—-> Read the rest of this entry »
