From Leigh Feldman:

Oh snap, this weekend is massive. So much going on it's going to be hard to decide what to do. There are movies, art shows, clothing sales, black jack nights, dance parties, free beer giveaways, chocolate festivals, house parties, magazine parties, benefit parties, warehouse parties, birthday parties, nude photos, a party with Simon Rex from MTV fame, fashion shows for lingerie and brides to be and even a 'poetography' exhibit. Whew. It's almost too much to make a decision. Perhaps these two mixes can sway you one way or the other…

MIX 1) DJ Zimme Live 90's Mix – http://www.zshare.net/audio/52131887a1b5e26a/
MIX 2) Monk One Funky Mix – http://www.nyctrust.com/musicbox/funkypromo.mp3

Fall of the House is Back at Action Adventure

The first episode of Fall of the House Season 4 starts tomorrow night. If you miss this weekend, there are three more episodes left in this season–BUT really–see them all. Somehow, I missed the first two seasons of this show. But after seeing one last season, I will miss no more. It is hilarious, and Miranda (writer/production manager) pains herself to live with 6 people to make sure she has constant new material. I spoke with her today and she had 3 new people moving in. That is DEDICATION, people. Go see this woman's play.

Update: Review of Fall of the House: Season Four Opener | Portland Theater

From Miranda King:
Fall of the house, portland, oregon

Fall of the House —Portland's favorite (and only) improvised serial— returns for a fourth season of irresistible stories, familiar characters and, of course, off the cuff dialogue. The plot is mapped out, but actors work without a script, creating conversations and situations that are sharp and spontaneous. By drawing on their own lives and using their own words, the cast and company collaborate to create a series that is recognizable and relevant.

Portland Last Thursday at Goodfoot Lounge | January 29

January can be a rough month for Last Thursday on Alberta with the near-freezing temps, rain, and so forth. If you are looking for an alternative, how about Last Thursday at Goodfoot Lounge? This will be the first smoke-free one.

From Goodfoot Lounge:
last thursday at the goodfoot loungeGoodfoot will have an art opening Last Thursday, Jan 29th from 5-11pm. Show will be up until Feb 23rd.  The artists this month are Jennifer Mercede and Anna Todaro.

Jennifer Mercede was born in Long Beach, CA and grew up in Connecticut. At a young age Jennifer began making art, inspired by her grandmother, a free-spirited watercolorist. She would spend hours making hundreds of handmade floral greeting cards and loved when she had the house to herself to turn the music up and work on a creative project.

Jennifer's primarily abstract paintings consist of free flowing text, bright color fields, and crazy energetic doodling. Internally guided they involve letting go, taking big risks and trusting that there is no such thing as a mistake. They are meant to enjoy and motivate. She is inspired by color, children's art, old school hip hop flavor, graffiti, Read the rest of this entry »

Massive III: Music, Dancing, Black Jack, Giveaways | January 31

Massive II , a fashion affair to benefit the Oregon Food Bank.
December 6, 2008

Leigh Feldman, from the Portland Party email,  is having another one of his massive events this weekend…called Massive…III. There are a lot of great giveaways, black jack, and Pipeline is a sponsor–MEANING you should go.

Plus, if you arrive by 10 and say PDX Pipeline–free entry.

From Leigh:
Massive_3_WebUseWith almost 700 people through the door last time for the fashion show, we are expecting even bigger and better things for Massive III on the 31st. The Crown Room is ready (205 NW 4th), the black jack dealers are ready (wha? yeah, we have black jack tables), and I know Monk One from Wax Poetics magazine, along with our two other dj's are ready.

We have gift bags, giveaways, merchandise coupons, a raffle (free tattoo work from Adorn East and tons of other stuff!), spring line debuts from local clothing companies, drink specials from 42 Below Vodka, $2 beers and even a chance bar where you flip a coin and if you guess heads or tails correctly your drink is just $1. Party starts at 9, which means that the party really does start at 9.

Like always, Massive is a benefit event; this month we are raising money for the Anti Prop 8 campaign, which is definitely an important issue as our country attempts to move forward with change. We for sure hope to see you and the entire Pipeline community there!

Massive III: A Chance for Change. Saturday January, 31st. 9pm. 21+. Crown Room @ 205 NW 4th. $3 or free with rsvp to leighfeldman3 @ gmail

A Room With More-than-one View: Fourteen30

Fourteen 30, Portland, Oregon

By Arthur Smid

I walk into Fourteen30 Contemporary, and everything fits: the high ceiling, white walls, paintings, braided hair strung from the floor to ceiling. I won't mention how much the braided hair costs, you have to experience the gallery for what it is: a staging ground for emerging artists. “It's intimidating at first,” gallery owner Jeanine Jablonski says, “with contemporary art there's such a long history involved. It's so all over the map, that people do need a little guidance as to who is a good investment.” Jablonski's gallery, Fourteen30 Contemporary, is in SE Portland at 1430 SE 3rd Avenue.

A new show opened Friday January 23rd featuring Portland-based artist Read the rest of this entry »

Oregon Sustainability and the End of the Oil Age

By Jacksonps

John Kaufmann, Senior Policy Analyst Conservation Division at the Oregon Department of Energy"We must face the prospect of changing our basic ways of living. This change will either be made on our own initiative in a planned way, or forced on us with chaos and suffering by the inexorable laws of nature." ~ President Jimmy Carter

We hear about presentations on environmental concerns fairly often in our "oh so green city" but how much do we really learn. I attended "World Oil Supply: At The Turning Point?" at the Baghdad Theatre with John Kaufmann, Senior Policy Analyst Conservation Division at the Oregon Department of Energy of over 25 years.

I believe there are really three main issues surrounding the end of the oil age, Read the rest of this entry »
