How about a “best kept secrets” section for Portland? I recently spent 2 short months living in Portland and found out about/experienced about all sorts of great people, places, events, etc. that I had never seen on any Portland related website – just through word of mouth!

Implementing more third party services that are local to Portland (i.e. location-based social web service shizzow.com) so users can “shout” there location.

Featured Portland artists, events, businesses, etc.

Organize, feature or provide coverage of Strand Community Meetups.

Seeing as the site uses several third party sites (i.e. Twitter) to help users generate content, I think it would be handy if Strands made use of hashtagging as do various other sites. By using hashtags, people could aggregate content in a new ‘Portland’ filter category based on the hashtag (#pdx, #portland, #powells). Tweets etc. would automatically be associated with this filter….

I believe that the Strands website will benefit from having user artwork distributed about in the background. Using a random selector, this would give the website a personal touch and make it more personable to the Portland Spirit. The pictures could appear in the sidebars on select pages or as a faded background behind different threads, etc.

List of local places user frequents including bars/ happy hours, music venues, local sites- parks, etc., and how they rate with others, that can be pulled up on an interactive map
From that how they would like other local events/places that match their personality/ keywords in their profile and or ratings.

Portland centric? Thats easy. Sex and rock n roll or dating and more music oriented material – if you prefer (ahem). I can think of little that would be as compelling. Bring the sexy back. Yes.
